It seems to be that last minute plans, always end up being the best. Last weekend, Minnesota was finally in it’s summer weather glory which meant it was the perfect weekend to get outside and enjoy the sunshine! What better way to do this than spend it at one of Minnesota’s top local wineries!
The Winery at Sovereign Estate is located in a quaint and charming town of Waconia, Minnesota. About a 30 minute drive from Minneapolis with scenic outdoor, countryside, and lakeside views along the way, making it a perfect day trip destination.
Located at: 9950 North Shore Rd Waconia, MN 55387
My parents were looking for something to do, so they picked me up from my apartment and off to the winery we went! One thing lead to another, and we called family who lived near by to join in on the fun.
The vibe and scenery of Sovereign Estate reminds one of the atmosphere of vineyards in California, but has that special Minnesota touch and feel with overlooking the beautiful Lake Waconia.
Enjoy a guided tasting with one of their experienced staff in the tasting room. There are three tasting options in the tasting room.
Signature Wine Tasting $10 – select 5 wines from their Signature wine list.
Royal Wine Tasting $12 – select any 5 wines from their Reserve wine list & Signature wine list.
Reserve Wine Tasting $15 – select any 5 wines from ALL wines listed.
If you also sign up for their email club you get another taste that day, and will be up to date with all the fun events going on throughout the year there! Which I plan to check out.
You can also order wine flights, beer, and food to order to sit around and enjoy with friends and family while taking in the many beautiful views of the property.
Walk through their angel garden, and see how many angels you can count and find, have a picnic out on the picnic tables, sit around a bon fire at night or to watch the sun set, and make sure to take in the lake views and say hi to the sheep! That’s right, this winery also has sheep! A fun and unique feature and all the reason more to spend an afternoon at this winery. This place also happens to be dog friendly! So take your favorite canine with too to enjoy all the fun.
Minnesota wines also taste different due to the colder climate. They tend to be more acidic than sweet, but they do have a few good options to choose from for those who tend to like the sweeter wines.
My favorites were the Cameo Rose and the Malbec ’17.
So the next time you’re looking for something fun to do in Minnesota this summer and fall season, make sure to add a visit to the Sovereign Estate Winery in Waconia.
Great tip! My husband and I love to go to wineries and don’t know of ay in this area yet. Thanks!
