“The Surly Trail Loppet 1/2 Marathon is a challenging course with big hills, narrow trails, rocks, and logs.”
Are you a runner, an outdoorsy person, or just someone who likes to seek out adventure? If so then the Surly Trail Loppet Race is something I highly recommend for you to check out!
A little about the Surly Trail Loppet: Discover the hidden gems of Theodore Wirth Park (about the same size as Central Park in New York) running through wooded hidden trails, ponds, lakes, bogs, and wild flower gardens. (And let’s not forget, LOT’S OF MUD) The Trail Loppet includes 4 separate races :: A Half Marathon, 13.1k, 5k, and age gap relays. If you’re of the drinking age you receive a freshly brewed Surly beer ~ Which at the end of the race for me was Surly well deserved.
I had signed up for the Half Marathon with my friend David. Before take off the announcers commentary included “You will get muddy, dirty, your shoes will get wrecked, you may fall and bleed, and get carried away by the paramedics.”
But don’t let that scare you! (Although at first it had me thinking, “What did I get myself into!?”)
Although the Surly Trail Loppet was one of the toughest races I have endeavored, that feeling you get when passing the finish line is sooo rewarding. One of the greatest feelings is accomplishing something you once thought would have been impossible.
Since getting into running, it has taught me that anything you wish to achieve and do is all part of a mental game. You need to keep positive thoughts, keep pushing forward and working towards your goals, and you can do and achieve anything you set your mind too.

Congrats on completing the half marathon! That’s a big accomplishment! I bet that Surly beer tasted super great at the end too. 🙂
That looks like such a fun race. I may have to check into it next year. Thanks for all the trail pics, it give people a good idea on what to expect.
Nice job! Amazing photos! I’ve done one 1/2 marathon last May, in farm country. Only had fields to look at!!!
