With having a few days off from work, and Minnesota being in a never ending winter tundra, there’s always a perfect excuse to hop on a plane and fly away somewhere warm. Like usual, last minute decisions are always the best decisions. Next Stop: Vegas Baby!

I flew in to meet up with my mom, dad, brother, uncle, and cousin.

Stayed at: The Cosmopolitan and Aria. Pool season is just opening up now. I recommend that Aria’s pool is better than the Cosmopolitan’s, but the Cosmopolitan has better rooms, and rooms with a view/balcony.

Slots were played, tables were played, drinks were drunk, and money was lost.

Days 1 & 2 were spent laying by the pool, and walking around the casino’s.

Night #2: Fremont Street

The original Las Vegas when it came to be. Now known as ” Old Las Vegas” and “Fremont Street, the Fremont Experience.

Make sure to stop in the El Cortez Hotel & Casino, a few block walk from Fremont Street and order their well known $5.00 margarita’s. The best $5.00 margarita you ever will drink, and I bet you can not have just one.

The El Cortez also has a restaurant called Siegel’s 1941 which has a secret menu  $12.99 Prime Rib special, which is available anytime and is oh so good! It comes with a roll, baked or mashed potatoes, mixed veggies and a nice tender cut of prime rib. Service was excellent, we were checked on frequently and our margarita glasses were never empty.

Slots and table games are also cheaper in Fremont Street/ Downtown Las Vegas, and the scene overall is more relaxed, care free, and easy going. Make sure to check out the Fremont Street Experience that happens every hour on the hour.

Day 3: Red Rock Canyon Conservation Area

Grab a fresh cold pressed juice from Pressed Juicery located in the Aria. Great pre hiking fuel and the elderberry shot is great to help with the changing of seasons, allergies, and making you feel great overall.

Hop in the car for a 20 minute drive and you won’t feel like you’re in Vegas anymore. The Red Rock Canyon Conservation area is a 200,000 acre outdoor desert wonderland with more then 30 miles of hiking, rock climbing, and biking trails. Spend the day hitting the trails instead of the slots.

Your wallet will thank you along with your body for getting some fresh outdoor air, and escaping the oxygen smoke infused casino’s.

Icebox Canyon is a 2.2 mile hike, is considered strenuous because for most of the hike you will be creating your own trail, and venturing and scrambling over boulders and loose rocks to get to the end of the canyon.

And there you have it! A 3 day getaway to Las Vegas, making every day and night a new experience and adventure. While it is considered the city that never sleeps and also is known as Sin City, there truly is something there for everyone to do and enjoy, whether it be indoors in the casino’s and clubs, or outdoors walking the strip and Fremont Street, or escaping to the great outdoors for a breath of fresh air.

Thanks so much for carrying on along on this quick trip and adventure with me! I hope I have given you some great ideas for when you plan yours.
