What a week/weekend it has been! I can’t believe all the events that have been happening, friendships I have been making while I am spending my time here in Australia. Everyday memories are being made.

First week of classes went good. I’m taking Outdoor Education, Communication in Organisations, and Digital Photography. So far loving them all. Since I’ve been here there have been quite a few parties, or should I say “Social Gatherings.” There are two main bars (pubs) in town, one named Tommy’s, and the other, Mary G’s with a dance club called “The One.” And then there’s also the Unibar on Campus. Theme parties have been occurring a lot lately here. On thursday the Unibar had a Toga Party, apparently it’s one of the biggest theme parties to attend. It was fun dressing up and having an all around good time.

Friday after class I got to finally relax for a little bit and enjoy the pool for the first time since being here. If I have nothing going on, you will most likely find myself relaxing by the pool.

Saturday I went exploring the town I live in of Lismore with two girls that live across from me: Kristen and Kelsey. Since none of us international’s have cars here, we decided to venture off and walk to town. It’s about a good 20-30 minute walk to get into the main part of Lismore. The town has your basics: hospital, church, post office, movie theater, shopping mall ect. Then once you get into downtown Lismore it’s full of all these cute little shops and dinning places. While exploring we came across a Country Target! It reminded me a little of home, and my love of shopping at Target back at home. It’s different than the Target’s at home but it sold clothes, common household products, ect. We also ate at a hotel/restauraunt called Tatt’s. The food was delsih!

Speaking of shopping, I am absolutely in LOVE with Australian fashion. If I wasn’t on a budget while here, I definitely would blow all my money on clothes and jewelry from here. While exploring and shopping I bought myself a cute floppy hat. They’re very common here along with highwaisted shorts, big sunglasses, chunky jewelry, light and flowy clothes, and also anything floral, ect. Kinda boho hippie surfer chic, if you can imagine and put those categories together…I love it.

Sunday was another fun filled day. I woke up to people surrounding the front entrance door of my apartment complex. A huge group of people were going to Byron Bay, others going to some local Quarries. I was bombarded with all these ideas, and was just planning on laying by the pool for the day. Good thing I didn’t do that!

I ended up going to Byron Bay with some friends. It was a beautiful day to hang out and swim in the ocean. Later on a guy from my school named Heath took us to what is apparently one of the best fish and chip places to eat. He was right! It was sooo yummy. After eating he then took us to one of the most beautiful views of the ocean I have seen since being here. We walked up a hill/trail, climbed through a fence and then there it was…the most majestic view of the ocean. It’s amazing how something so simple can look and be so surreal. I am literally falling in love with this country day by day.

I also have some fun and exciting upcoming events! This weekend I am going on a surf camp trip! I finally get to surf!! I have been looking forward to this day since I have gotten here. I’m also going to Melbourne with some friends March 13-16th. Totally booked that one last minute, but I’m excited I’m going! I’m also planning on going to Sydney and staying with my friend Tashi. She’s lives in Sydney and basically is going to be my tour guide while I’m there :). I’m also hopefully seeing the Great Barrier Reef too while in Australia. AAHHH I’m getting soo excited for all of this! Also don’t worry, I am still doing school work while here while it sounds like I’m basically on one big vacation — well which it kind of is 🙂
